The restoration of a family home in Montafon
With sensitivity for the building’s history, the architektur.terminal hackl klammer architectural firm of Vorarlberg carefully restored a house from 1836 in Montafon for the building’s heiress. The building owner, who lives in Vorarlberg’s Rheintal valley, feels a strong connection with her grandmother Benedikta’s house and therefore decided to renovate while maintaining the structure’s architectural heritage. In collaboration with architect Dieter Klammer, the building’s renovations were carried out and the new purpose was developed. Now, after two years of construction, the finished property is a true gem. The spacious property may now be rented out by the owner as a holiday home for 6 to 8 people.
Featuring a large garden, the residential house functions as a holiday apartment but has nevertheless retained the charm’s of a house. In addition to common rooms such as the traditional Montafonerstube parlour, there is also a modern kitchen on the ground floor. On the first floor, there are three bedrooms with en-suite bathroom. During renovations, the available space was maximised. The entrance area, which features a steel staircase as a striking design element, creates a living room atmosphere. With great attention to detail in combination with fine fabrics and colours, the newly remodelled house was also lovingly furnished and decorated.
