Hotel Am Holand

Visible from afar and featuring a panoramic location on the outskirts of Au in the Bregenzerwald, the inn run by the Simma family has been in business for generations. More than 14 years ago, the parents of host couple Karin and Sebastian Simma decided to convert their popular mountain inn into a hotel by adding an extension. An additional construction stage followed in 2018 with the addition of a wellness area and a dedicated wood chip heating system on site. Just two years later, in the middle of the pandemic, the rooms were remodeled and an open kitchen area was redesigned.  Christian Feldkircher and Albert Moosbrugger (FIRM Feldkircher und Moosbrugger ZT GmbH of Lustenau) were their partner for all the stages of remodelling.

The small Hotel Am Holand is a retreat for people keen to take a time out alone, as a couple, or with friends in a gorgeous area. In the hotel’s special atmosphere, relax and enjoy host Sebastian Simma’s excellent cuisine . Just beyond the hotel’s doorstep, there are numerous recreational opportunities in addition to regional cuisine to enjoy.

To ensure the sustainability and profitability of the farm even after the remodelling and expansion works of 2018, the family decided to heat with wood only. For this purpose, a dedicated wood chip heating system was embedded into the terrain in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Because of the hotel’s remote location, it was not possible to to connect to an existing district heating system. The heating system is serviced by a local craftsman.

It’s worth mentioning that the FIRM Feldkircher und Moosbrugger ZT GmbH architectural firm received the 2019 BigSEE Architecture Award for design and construction of the hotel’s wellness area.
