Bezau with its county court, notary’s office and various schools, shops, workshops and eateries, forms one of the region’s centres. It is also home to a local history museum, where visitors can find out lots about the rural way of life.
Reuthe: Alongside industrial plants for processing wood, the neighbouring village of Reuthe is also home to the oldest church in the Hinterwald as well as the Gesundhotel Bad Reuthe. This health-orientated hotel uses two naturally occurring cure treatments: medicinal mud and achaly beate spring. The meadows around the villages, such as you’d see on a ramblealong the Grebenbach, reveal a numberof typical barns as they characterised the whole of the Bregenzerwald in earlier days.

  • Directions

From the tourist information office/town hall, follow the path to Bezau’s parish church. After the church, turn off to the right and, opposite “Hotel Gams”, a yellow-and-white marked footpath takes you along the village stream as far as “Oberbezau”. At signpost 6.21, you return to the road and now hike downhill towards “Bezau Ortsmitte Grebenbachweg”. This path follows the Grebenbach as far as board 6.03, where you cross the bridge and turn off to the left towards “Reuthe”. At board 6.04, you follow the inscription “Reuthe Waldweg”. The “Grebauer Moosrundweg” starts after about 50 m, which you follow in a counterclockwise direction, i.e. you turn off to the right. Once you have reached the edge of the forest, you follow the “Reuthe Waldweg” (board 6.80) until you reach the small Mühlebach at board 6.0 (Kneipp facility). Here, you turn off to the left and hike as far as Reuthe parish church. To the south of the church, take the pavement to the left as far as Hotel “Bad Reuthe”. In front of the hotel, turn off to the right at the car park. After crossing the Bizauerbach, follow the stream back to Reuthe village centre. There, you once again cross over the church hill and return to the Kneipp facility. You now continue to follow the Mühlebach towards Bezau. In “Ellenbogen”, the path turns into a road bearing a footpath symbol. The path continues towards “Bahnhof Museumsbahn” and back into the centre of Bezau.
