Sunshine Tour – E-Bike

Directions

The tour starts at Aktivpark Montafon, following the Ill river trail to Vandans and then on to St. Anton im Montafon. From there, a quite challenging ascent takes you up the mountain, via Jetzmunt all the way to Bartholomäberg. The baroque church at Bartholomäberg is a good place for a first respite. One of the oldest parish churches in Montafon, it is well worth a visit. Then follow the Dorfstrasse and Roferstrasse roads uphill until you reach idyllic Fritzen lake. Cosy benches beckon around the lake to spend some time taking in the amazing scenery. To continue, keep going straight ahead (gravel road to the right of the lake). More lakes – Tora and Fula – lay in wait along the way. Mounting slowly but steadily, the trail takes you towards Kristberg as far as the turn-off towards Ganzaleita. Take a right turn here and descend on gravel ground until you reach the tarmacked Kristberg road around Kappu. Taking the Kristberg road, it is only a short way up to the Kristberg cable-car mountain terminal. Along the way, you will pass Panoramagasthof Kristberg where you can exchange or charge your e-bike battery, if necessary, and stop for a bite. A little above Panoramagasthof Kristberg, you can visit St Agatha miners’s chapel, with highly interesting information on mining on display. From the Kristberg cable-car mountain terminal, the trail continues up and down a wide gravel path towards the end of the valley, with fascinating views opening up at every turn. At the Siebenbrünnele Kneipp facility, fresh and clear spring water offers much needed refreshment. The Kneipp facility, which pools water from seven mountain springs, offers panoramic vistas. Refreshed and with your circulation boosted, head straight ahead towards the Wildried lookout, another scenic resting spot. A little later, you will arrive at Wildried, a hill moor area, from where you descend towards Lobsteg. Once there, keep to your right and begin the descent through the idyllic setting of the Wasserstubental valley along the Burtschabach brook. At around “Starkes Eck”, the Gretscher waterfall – only a few steps above the trail – begs to be visited. The next stop is the Hasahüsli inn. Hasahüsli is another opportunity to exchange or charge your e-bike battery, if necessary, and grab something to eat. Alpengasthaus Fellimännle, the next place to stop for some refreshments, is not far away. Continue downhill along the Litz river and have a look at the Teufelsbach waterfall on your way towards the centre of Silbertal. A few minutes later, you will arrive at the village. Take the Silbertalerstrasse towards Schruns or back to the starting point of the tour.

Why not leave your car behind?

The Montafonerbahn regional buses cover all of Montafon. The main lines depart from the Schruns railway station at hourly intervals.

Using public transport is highly recommended. At the Intersport rental station in the centre of Schruns (next to the railway station) you can rent a bike to suit your requirements. You can also start the tour directly in the centre of Schruns. To get to the Ill river trail, follow the Litz promenade in the direction of the Tschagguns railway station.

To get back again

The main bus lines and the Montafonerbahn depart from the Schruns railway station.

By rail

The Montafonerbahn railway runs every hour (sometimes every 30 minutes) from the Bludenz railway station. Direct transfer available also from Lindau in Germany or from Bregenz.

Approach:

Coming from Bludenz, take the Bludenz/Montafon exit from the motorway and follow the L188 towards Montafon until you reach Schruns. www.maps.google.com
