Cycling in Vorarlberg: The well-signposted network of trails for cycling in Vorarlberg is nearly 300 kilometres long! Not to mention the roadside cycle paths and cross-border routes that lead to neighbouring Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
One prime example is the 270-km Lake Constance cycling route, which is amongst the most popular bike routes in all of Europe. Vorarlberg’s quiet side streets are also well worth exploring. Would you prefer to skip one or more legs of your route? Take a shortcut with the train or the Lake Constance ships and ferries.
Bring bikes on board a train and ferry
To shorten various stretches of the overall journey or to add variety, cyclists have the option to hitch a ride on Vorarlberg’s local and regional trains or make use of the ferries and ships on Lake Constance. Bikes will be transported according to the conditions of the various transportation companies.
- The Vorarlberger Tarifverbund (Vorarlberg Tariff Association) allows tourists to affordably take advantage of public transportation thanks to uniform tariff conditions.
Take your bike on board thanks to the Verkehrsverbund Vorarlberg (train and bus – German only) - There are a variety of different ways to take you bike on board the trains of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). Passengers must reserve a spot on long distance trains (Railjet, Intercity, Eurocity as well as Nightjet). Infos and reservations at:

- Departing regularly, ships on Lake Constance (season from april to mid october) transport bikes as luggage for a fee as long as their is sufficient space on board. The Meersburg-Konstanz and Friedrichshafen-Romanshorn car ferries, which constantly go back and forth throughout the day, also transport bikes. Single or multiple journey tickets are available and kids pay half price for all offers.
