See what it’s like to live with animals on a farm.

What do the cows do in winter and where are they in summer? What kind of work is there to do on the farm? Farm families in all regions of Vorarlberg provide insights. On their farms you are allowed to look into the barn, can be present at feeding and learn interesting facts about cattle, calves, sheep, goats, the milk and cheese.

Hello Goat & Cow!
The Metzler family established Vorarlberg’s first open farm in Egg In addition to the alpine dairy school and the modern building where the Metzler family makes cosmetics from whey, now you can also visit the impressive cowshed, and a goat play house with a viewing gallery. With the NATURHAUTNAH (NATURE UP CLOSE) project, the Metzler family has created a center for energy-efficient and sustainable farming, where visitors can experience and get hands-on with all agricultural processes up close. The project has won several Austrian and international awards.

Farm experience in Au-Schoppernau
The versatile family program in Au-Schoppernau offers weekly insights into life on the farm. What do cows eat and how do you milk them? Children can watch the farmer feed and milk his cows. Those who wish can taste milk that is warm from the cow. The visit lasts about 1 1/2 hours and is included in the Guest Card Bregenzerwald & Großes Walsertal. Registration at the tourist office.

Cows, donkeys, stone sheep and goats live on the farm in Lech am Arlberg. Small and large visitors are welcome to visit the animals. Some may also be stroked.

Special experiences only in winter:

Sheep-stable-wool in Au-Schoppernau
An excursion leads into a sheep barn in Au-Schoppernau. During the one-and-a-half-hour program, participants learn interesting facts about sheep and the processing of wool, they can sniff the fragrant mountain hay in the hayloft and listen to an exciting sheep story. Children from the age of four can participate. The price includes a small sheep wool pillow, a drink and “sheep cookies”.

Scottish Highland cattle in Lech
A visit to the “Schottenhof” and the Scottish Highland cattle is on the program every Thursday afternoon in Lech am Arlberg. Participation in the guided tour for children up to 14 years is free of charge.

Holidays on the Farm

And those who want to experience a whole farm holiday are in good hands on a farm. Numerous Vorarlberg farms offer cosy rooms and also holiday flats. Nine of them are specialised “baby and children’s farms”. The host families are particularly good at making holidays enjoyable for children and adults and at introducing those interested to life on a farm.
