Covered bridge Riezlern-Höfle
-
The bridges in the Kleinwalsertal have a variety of types, we have pure wooden bridges, so bridges, precast bridges, bridges of concrete and iron structures. Some watercourses, over which earlier smaller or larger bridges led, were cased. A very special kind were and are the so-called “covered wooden bridges”. The main reason for the roof of the bridges was certainly to protect the stringers from the weather. Originally there were 12 such bridges in the Kleinwalsertal, of which only three are left. The oldest is the Leidtobel bridge in Hirschegg and the youngest is the Hinterhöfle bridge in Mittelberg, which was rebuilt after being destroyed in 2005 by flooding. The bridge in Riezlern-Höfle over the Scharzwasserbach was inaugurated in 2003. It is the icing on the cake when completing the Schwarzwasserbachweg from the Mahdtalhaus to the Schwende bridge or to Riezlern-Egg.
