Skimuseum und Bergschau Hirschegg
-
In the Walser house at the center of the village of Hirschegg there is an interactive indoor exhibit about mountains and alpine life, with original artifacts and artistic reconstructions. This mountain exhibit presents and explains fundamental aspects of the geology, natural environment and culture of the Kleinwalsertal. The family-friendly displays include the hands-on exploration of objects, minerals and other materials, and “sparkling” discoveries observing crystals with an electronic video microscope. After finishing the mountain exhibit, visitors can hike along self-guided mountain trails, which provide information and stories about natural and cultural topics.
The Hirschegg Museum of Skiing is also located in the Walser House. It offers an overview of the beginnings of ski sports, certain to be of interest to the whole family. The main exhibit, entitled “The Pioneer Times of Skiing – from 1895 to 1940”, tells the story of the beginnings of skiing in the late 19th century, then continues up into the 1940s, presenting ski equipment and clothing from days long past. There is a photo exhibit, along with a variety of sports items including old-fashioned skis and ski boots.
