A unique perspective on Lake Constance
The "Blickraum" in the vorarlberg museum in Bregenz
There is an inconspicuous doorway on the fourth floor of the vorarlberg museum in Bregenz. Enter inside and be amazed...
Inside, black felt pads the walls and the only decoration is a spacious 90 square metre bench. Little else is needed as the enormous window frames the captivating scene just beyond. Sit and enjoy the view.
Lakeside scenery at its finest
Like staring up at a cinema screen in a darkened theatre, the scene beyond is majestic: The hustle and bustle of everyday life and the tranquillity of the lake are perfectly framed. The scene beyond is muted. The sky over Lake Constance is changeable and so too are the colourful or snowy trees and flowers on the lakeside promenade. Ships come and go, as do the many walkers and cyclists. Traffic flows and every now and then a train arrives or departs. Some are heading for the lake, others for the train station, and some wait for a milkshake at the mushroom shaped “Milchpilz” kiosk with its red polka-dot roof. There’s the old harbour building and the new one. To the left is the lakeside stage of the Bregenz Festival.
Take your time
We encourage you to stay as long as you like in the “Blickraum”, as long as it’s within the opening hours of the vorarlberg museum of course. It’s the ideal intermezzo during a visit to an exhibition, at the start or conclusion of a city or lakeside stroll, a cycle tour on the shores of Lake Constance, or before or after a boat trip.
Restaurant tips
Hungry or thirsty? In addition to the museumscafe at the vorarlberg museum, there are a number of cafés, bars and restaurants at the Kornmarktplatz square or on the shores of Lake Constance.
Tips for boat trips
Ships in the Lake Constance ferries fleet head for numerous destinations on Lake Constance from Easter to the end of October. There are even special cruises in the pre-Christmas period and on New Year’s Eve.
The vorarlberg museum is open all year round. It is open daily in July and August, but from September to the end of June it closed on Mondays. There are special opening hours on holidays.
