C Igloo night in Montafon, St. Gallenkirch (c) Markus Gmeiner - Vorarlberg Tourismus
To sleep in a self-made igloo, you'll need perseverance and strength. But the rewards are totally cool!
Equipped with saws and shovels, participants from Hittisau in the Bregenzerwald construct an igloo in the middle of a white winter landscape. Kitted out with waterproof clothing and suitable gear, the participants saw and assemble blocks of ice according to expert instruction. Fortunately, the hard work performed in the brisk air is occasionally punctuated by breaks featuring warming drinks and a refreshing snack by the cosy fire. The programme begins at 9 am and participants either return back to the village at 6 pm or spend the night in the igloo.
How do you build an igloo? Experts from Aktivzentrum Bregenzerwald explain how near Schnepfau. Participants first navigate to the location with snowshoes and GPS. The igloo is constructed before dusk. The minimum number of participants is six.
