On the Bregenz Culture Mile: Vorarlberg State Theatre

Through the interweaving of acting, set design and costume, new worlds are constantly created on the theatre stage.
Theatre is a space for stories, a place where imagination, reflection, emotion and empathy unfold; theatre develops its social and artistic power from non-conformity and ambiguity, it demands curiosity and encourages open-mindedness. Theatre raises questions, formulates hopes and fears. It opens up new angles, different perspectives, sensitises, inspires – and is indispensable for society.
Theatre is only truly alive together with its audience: Creative participation in the social art form is needed on both sides of the curtain. Each production confronts the burning issues in politics and society anew, becoming a new blueprint for successful coexistence.
The Vorarlberg State Theatre in Bregenz makes an important contribution to the state’s cultural landscape with its diverse repertoire and supra-regional appeal. Essentially a theatre with sophisticated productions of classical and contemporary plays for children, young people and adults, it also offers opera productions in a biennial rhythm, experimental and discursive formats and (pop) musical evenings.
