A new highlight route for climbers has been opened up with the Klostertal via ferrata on the Fallbach. Climbers can expect an adventure on the rock including an impressive waterfall and a sensational panorama.

In spring 2018, a new via ferrata was built on the mighty Fallbachwand with the waterfall of the same name, which until then was only known to ice climbers. This long, medium-difficulty via ferrata, which always leads along the right side of the Fallbach, offers great views and a sensational via ferrata experience in Dalaas in Klostertal. The via ferrata has no maximum technical difficulty, but the sum of the many C and C/D passages and especially the length make this via ferrata a challenge even for experienced climbers. Conclusion: This via ferrata is definitely not for beginners, but for enthusiastic climbers with appropriate experience and stamina an absolute must!

  • Directions

    Access
From the newly built parking lot directly on the Arlbergstraße, follow the road out of the valley for about 100 meters. Here you cross the road and go through the gate of the game fence. From here follow the signs “Zum Klettersteig” until you reach the entrance of the via ferrata after about 20 min.

    Route description
At the beginning briefly steep, then platy upwards to a first steep ascent with brackets (C/D). Over this wall higher (C/D), over a ledge until you reach steeply stepped terrain. From here again towards the waterfall (often C) until you come to a flat place with gravel. Here ends the first steep lower part. From there stepped, but always also with steep sections (up to B/C) long slightly right ascending higher until you reach a place with a bench. There follows another long easier part with some grassy passages (places up to B) until you reach a small scree gully, which pulls down from the right. A platy passage follows, which leads more and more steeply to a small overhang (C to C/D). After the small overhang always steep and demanding higher (to C) to the band before the dark final wall. Up the steep wall to the right – there are fewer staples there than at the bottom (places C/D) – until around a ledge. There again steeply (C/D, then easier) up to a mountain pine band. From here left on the Latschenband and slightly descending around a rock, at the end steep and earthy to the end of the via ferrata.

    Descent
From the end of the via ferrata follow the blue dot marking, cross the stream and get to the hiking trail on the blue marked path. Turn left on the hiking trail (white-blue-white markings) and descend to the last houses in the Winkel district. From here via the hiking trail back to the starting point.
